Our name Khana is derived from the Khoisan word "to fly".

At Khana Energy this means bringing together the very best of local technical, financial and economic development capabilities with a shareholding that exceeds the local and black ownership requirements of the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme establishing Khana Energy as the preferred local equity partner to international utilities owning and operating independent renewable energy power generation projects.

Khana Energy is the result of a strategic partnership between Red Cap and Gamiro with 51% shareholding by Gamiro Investment Group and 49% by Red Cap Consult.

Gamiro Investment Group (Pty) Ltd is a 100% Black owned investment company with capability and experience in investment management, social impact investments, implementation of economic development projects and management of trusts.

Red Cap Consult (Pty) Ltd is a collaboration between Red Cap Investments and Leadwood Capital. Red Cap is an innovative and dynamic South African company that develops renewable energy businesses and projects. Leadwood Capital is boutique corporate finance advisor with extensive experience in the renewable energy sector, both within South Africa and internationally.

Khana Executive Heather Sonn

Heather Sonn holds a Liberal Arts Degree from Smith College, in the US and a M.Sc. in International Affairs (Business) from Georgetown University. She is the co-founder of Gamiro Investment Group that has a focus on investments in the Renewable Energy, Agriculture and Financial Services sectors.

  • The company is committed to creating sustainable legacy businesses based in South Africa through sound commercial practices and positive social impact.
  • Heathers skill and experience makes her a valuable member of the team in driving a sustainable, long-term South African business within Renewable Energy.

Khana Executive Mark Tanton

Mark Tanton has a B. Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Cape Town. In 2009 Mark co-founded Red Cap investments (Pty) Ltd, a private company developing renewable energy projects in Southern Africa.

  • Red Cap has successfully bid the 111 MW Gibson Bay wind farm in the Eastern Cape in partnership with EGP South Africa, and the 80MW Kouga Wind Farm project
    at Oyster Bay.
  • Marks network and knowledge within the Renewable Energy sector ensure that the projects in which Khana participates are provided with a solid foundation that will significantly de-risk project execution.

Khana Executive Devon Pather

Devon Pather holds a Bachelors Degree in Economics from Macquarie University, Australia, a Masters of Business Administration from Wits Business School and Stern Business School, NYU and a Certificate in Practical Microfinance.

  • Devon is the co-founder of Gamiro Investment Group that has a focus on investments in the Renewable Energy, Agriculture and Financial Services sectors.
  • The company is committed to creating sustainable legacy businesses based in South Africa through sound commercial practices and positive social impact.
  • Devon brings a broad perspective of development issues and experience in designing, funding and implementing SED projects and is key to the mentorship and skill development in this area within Khana.

Khana Executive David Nicol

David Nicol holds a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from Witwatersrand University and a Masters degree in Sustainable Energy Engineering from Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan (Stockholm, Sweden).

In 2009 David cofounded Red Cap Investments (Pty) Ltd, a private company developing renewable energy projects in Southern Africa.

Within Khana, David oversees the mentorship and skill development within technical and economic development compliance due to his depth of experience and skill in this area.

Khana Executive James Eedes

James Eedes has an MBA from Imperial College London and a Bachelor of Commerce from Stellenbosch University. James is a co-founder and principal at Leadwood Capital, a boutique corporate finance advisor with extensive experience in the renewable energy sector, both within South Africa and internationally.

  • James has strong finance capabilities covering project analysis, deal structuring, financial modelling and capital raising as well as budgeting, financial control, reporting, compliance and accounting during construction and operation.
  • James is one of the leading financial experts within the renewable energy sector, and is responsible for the mentorship and skill development within financial management, financial modeling and all financial capabilities required by Khana.
