Khana Oyster Bay
In April 2015, the Oyster Bay Wind Farm was one of the Preferred Bidders selected in the fourth bid submission phase of the REIPPP Programme.
The Oyster Bay Wind farm is 140MW wind farm consisting of 44 x 3.3MW Vestas turbines generating 560GWh of clean electricity annually, enough to supply approximately 130,000 average households in a year.
By using energy from a clean source such as wind, the country can reduce its dependency on coal power, which is responsible for the majority of our CO2 emissions. The wind farm will reduce South Africa’s impact on climate change by displacing approximately 520,000 tons of CO2 annually.
The Oyster Bay Wind Farm is located approximately 6km north of Oyster Bay in the Kouga Local Municipality, Eastern Cape Province, and 80km west-southwest of Port Elizabeth.
The project cost is estimated to be approximately ZAR 2.4 billion. Khana Oyster Bay (RF) (Pty) Ltd has a 30% equity investment in this wind farm.
The local communities in the vicinity of the Wind Farm are expected to benefit from the project in multiple ways, including: Enterprise Development and Socio Economic Development Contributions, Community Trust ownership (10%), and Employment and Procurement opportunities.
